How to select a suitable power adapter in three steps

Sep 03, 2021

With the increasing functions of intelligent devices, their power consumption begins to be faster and faster. People began to get used to carrying portable chargers or power adapters with them. For many people, the concept of power adapter only stays in the stage of charger, but in fact, power adapter is a kind of transformer, which is widely used in chargers. People who are not familiar with the power adapter often need to face what kind of power adapter to charge.

The parameters of the power adapter are various, so you can't use the adapter for charging at will. Before selecting a power adapter, first determine three adaptation conditions.

First, the interface of the adapter is matched with the device;

Second, the output voltage must be the same as the rated input voltage of the load (mobile device), or within the voltage range that the load (mobile device) can withstand, otherwise, the load (mobile device) may be burned;

Third, the output current of the power adapter should be equal to or greater than the current of the load (mobile equipment) to provide sufficient power;

Now let's analyze the above three adaptation conditions.

First, do not insert mismatched interfaces without professional knowledge, otherwise it will be dangerous.

Second, the principle of why the voltage should be consistent is this - the voltage is insufficient to drive the load, and the battery cannot be charged normally. The popular point is that the supply is in short supply.

Third, why such a current configuration is needed involves the principle of the circuit. We all know that the power supply has internal resistance. The greater the internal resistance, the greater the loss. Therefore, when producing this adapter, the manufacturer will determine that the no-load output voltage is within a certain range according to the internal resistance, and the current critical value corresponding to the voltage critical value is the nominal value of the current we see. The larger the nominal value of the current, the better the load carrying capacity of the adapter. Therefore, choosing an adapter with a slightly higher current will not hurt the battery, but will make charging faster.
