5) The charging protocol (how much voltage or current, for example, how long to charge and what to do after charging) depends on the size and type of battery being charged. Some battery types are highly resistant to overcharging (i.e. charging after the battery is fully charged) and can be charged by connecting to a constant voltage source or a constant current source, depending on the battery type. This type of simple charger must be manually disconnected at the end of the charging cycle. Some battery types XXX need or may use a timer to cut off the charging current at a fixed time (about the completion of charging).
