What factors cause the power module to heat?

Power module can be said to be the product that most electronic products need to be applied. Different types of power modules are applied to different products. What are the factors that cause the heating of the power module during operation? 


Load is too small and inappropriate: light load of power supply, that is, the load impedance of power supply circuit is relatively large. When the output current of power supply to load is relatively small, some power circuits do not allow light load of power supply, otherwise, DC working voltage of power supply circuit will increase greatly, resulting in damage of power circuit. The load limit of the general power supply module is the minimum, and the manufacturer is different, generally 10%. If the output load is too light, it is recommended to parallel a false load resistor at the output side.

Overload of power supply, but the light load of power supply is the opposite. That is, the load circuit of power circuit has short circuit, which makes the output current of power supply large, which is beyond the scope of power supply. For the power module without over-current protection, the simplest output mode is voltage stability, over-voltage and over-current protection, which connects the linear voltage regulator with the over-current protection outside the input.


High ambient temperature or poor heat dissipation: before using module power supply, the temperature level and actual working temperature range of power supply module must be considered, and the cooling scheme shall be designed according to load power and actual ambient temperature.
