Power adapters with overheating protection types can be divided into the following categories: automatic reset, manual reset, non-regenerative, non-reset and other types that provide equivalent overheating protection.
Overheating protection, which refers to the activation of the appropriate protection function when the temperature exceeds a certain threshold value. Heat generated by energy conversion or friction in the operation of electronic equipment or machinery can lead to abnormal operation or malfunction. In order to suppress the temperature rise of the power adapter, in addition to the selection of small leakage current, short storage time of the power MOS tube, but also need to add a heat sink to the power MOS tube. The role of electronic switch overheating protection measures is in the power adapter is prone to heat components or power supply shell temperature exceeds the specified limit value before, cut off the power adapter AC input line, or forced to turn off the modulation pulse output, stop high-frequency oscillation.
If the power adapter is equipped with an IC control driver overheat protection function, there is no need to add any external components or only a small number of external components to prevent overheating. Since the power adapter controls the driver IC, a PN junction temperature sensor is built in, including a thermal shutdown circuit. The PN junction temperature sensor has a built-in driver IC connected to the sensor, and the driver IC thermal shutdown circuit and overheating protection become very simple. The cost of the IC itself is very low and the cost performance is very high.
