1. What is a power adapter?
The power adapter is a power supply conversion device for small portable electronic equipment and electronic appliances. It is generally composed of a casing, a power transformer and a rectifier circuit. According to its output type, it can be divided into AC output type and DC output type; according to the connection method, it can be divided into wall plug and desktop. It is widely used in telephones, game consoles, language repeaters, Walkmans, notebook computers, cellular phones and other equipment.
Most laptop power adapters are suitable for 100~240V AC (50/60Hz). Basically, most laptops have an external power supply and use a power cord to connect with the host, which can reduce the size and weight of the host. Only a few models have the power supply built into the host. There is a nameplate on the power adapter, which indicates indicators such as power, input and output voltage and current. Pay special attention to the range of input voltage, which is the so-called "travel power adapter".
2. What is a charger?
A charger generally refers to a device that converts alternating current to low-voltage direct current. Chargers are widely used in various fields, especially in the field of life, which are widely used in common electrical appliances such as mobile phones and cameras.
The charger is a static converter device that uses power electronic semiconductor devices to convert alternating current with constant voltage and frequency into direct current. The charger has a wide range of application prospects in the occasions where the battery is used as the working power source or the backup power source.
3. The difference between the power adapter and the charger:
The charger includes the function of the adapter, but there are also control circuits such as constant current and constant voltage inside the charger that meet the charging characteristics. The charging control circuit of the adapter is generally completed on the host. For example, mobile phone chargers and laptop computer chargers are actually just power adapters. They do not include charging control circuits. The charging control is completed inside the mobile phone and computer.
The biggest difference between a charger and an adapter is that the charger only charges the battery, while the adapter can not only charge the battery, but also power the host.
